Companis

Companis

Many folks make New Year's resolutions to try to 'do more good' in the New Year. And I may have found just the right nonprofit to help focus your professional talents in the direction of local organizations doing important work! Or, if you're a nonprofit who needs specialized assistance with a project, Companis might be right for you, too.

I learned about Companis through the Seattle University Nonprofit Leadership program, while I was earning my Masters degree in 2023. Companis was seeking a Masters student for work on a practicum project. I did not get placed there, but the good feedback I heard about the organization stuck in the back of my mind and I finally had a chance to meet with them this fall to learn more about their work. It's a small but mighty team with broad familiarity with local nonprofits and a proven system for making meaningful time-limited placements.

The Companis mission is "to make our community healthier, safer, and more just by fostering skilled volunteer service." They match volunteer professionals with area nonprofits, to "bridge the gap in delivering vital services in the greater Puget Sound." A quick review of their "how it works" page shows the care they take in making their matches, and answers some frequently asked questions. Applying is easy and the staff will treat your placement with the care and respect it deserves.

Do you have a specific professional skill or expertise and wonder if it might be of use to a grassroots organization?  Or do you just want a time- or project-limited assignment without a longterm commitment? Companis is a great resource to consider.
